Little Extinctions

A natural-selection simulation where you observe three subspecies of one ancestor eat, fight, and breed in a shared land.

About the game

When drought shrinks the land they can live on, three subspecies gather in one region: the large, strong red, the blue that cooperates in packs, and the green that leaves many offspring. Each creature sees and decides on its own: it hunts, forms packs that expand their territory, and mixes genes with others to bear young, and new species arise along the way. As an alien biologist, you follow one pack and observe its history across eight regions.

  • Creatures shaped by genesThree gene values — physical, cognitive, reproductive — set each creature's color and 19 traits such as size, speed, sight, and litter size, and new species appear as parents' genes mix and mutate.
  • Packs and territoryCreatures form packs that gain and lose hexagonal territory, and merges, splits, coups, and wars between packs are reported as news.
  • Three ways to observeA story mode across eight regions, a Laboratory where you set the map and every gene value, and a Terrarium where runs continue without end and without on-screen UI.
